Friends, I am sorry to tell you this, but my favorite smoke shop in Salt Lake City, Utah is closing down. Jeannies has been a staple in the community for at least fifty years, but the Utah Legislature has changed the tobacco tax from 35% to 86% and the shop owners will be responsible for making up the extra tax. The owner Ken told me tonight, that is would cost him 120,000 dollars just to stay in business. He also mentioned it feels like he is killing his best friend having to close down the shop his parents owned before him, but he just can't stay open with those taxes.
I have ordered five more pounds from him,
His three blends he makes himself are
Toast to the 90's (an aromatic similar to 1q)
Kens blend, (a light aromatic burley based blend)
Florentine (a light english), my absolute favorite I now own 8 pounds cellared of this one
if any of you are interested his blends are $31 a pound, and all of his pipes are half off.
Phone number for his shop is 1 801 322 2817
I think this may be the wave of the future, just important to keep cellaring before it disappears
This is really a sad story!!!
:-(
This will continue until there are politicians hanging from light posts. (observation, not suggestion)
If you look carefully, you'll notice that modern light posts are not suitable for hanging politicians.
I don't believe it to be a coincidence.
I like the way you think, vasco. Most astute.
Idiotic politicians...so instead of 35% they will NOT get 86%, but get ZERO.
If there's a willow... there's a way.
You have injected some much needed humor into a very depressing thread.
Although I argue a willow is a bit wimpy, need something a bit more stout like an Oak tree...
If there's a thrashing to be given, HICKORY!
...since we will evacuate Gitmo, let's send all the politicians to fill the space and start over!
I happened to be in SL in June and on your recommendation I stopped at Jeannie's. I bought a Jirsa Pipe, a tin of Hamborger Veermaster, Tordenskjold and MacB's Club Blend. Very nice folks there and I had hoped to visit them again. Although I was only there once I will miss them and sadly it won't be the last to suffer a similar fate, but dammit they'll legalize MJ. More intoxicated AH's on the road. I am glad I knew the US when it was the land of the free. I am afraid for my country and it saddens me what is going on with this administration and the policies even the states are going to crap.
