I consider the three C&D blends of Old Joe Krantz, Haunted Bookshop and Riverboat Gambler to be closely related family members. However, I consider Riverboat Gambler to be the best of all three because, for me, it combines the best of the other two and then some!
Haunted Bookshop is a delightful and very mild blend. Virtually a non-aromatic. The extremely light topping strikes me as possibly just a touch of Anise. I consider it a non-aro. I enjoy the quality leaf, the easy light and comfortable smoke it delivers. I do highly recommend it. But you should also try the other two as well or you will be missing something.
This is an excellent blend for Burley lovers but it has a bit more character than a pure Burley. This is something that I welcome in a blend of this type.
Enjoy it. It could be an easy all day smoke if you are looking for one. It is a good investment and will likely not let you down.
is busy busy busy...who knew getting a masters could do that to you?

well...
I agree with capt. Bob (although I have never tried RG)...HB and OJK are brothers...with Haunted Bookshop being the milder of the two. For me, it is OK...I really really wanted to like it a lot when I tried it, but I just think OJK is better...
HB itself is very lightly sweet and nutty...it can get harsh if overpuffed...but it is mild VA/Bur blend...good for something if you want to smoke it and not pay attention to your smoke...
About 9 months ago when I started smoking pipes I was smoking Half and Half and Carter Hall and getting into burleys. I ordered HB and really enjoyed it. A lot. It did really leave my pipes ashy tasting tho. When I finished my 4oz I was ready to move on to something else. The smell and taste of this will always remind me of my first months as a pipe smoker
I did enjoy its almost nutty musty taste tho.
My burley love is all directed towards Barbary Coast these days.
I concur with Captain Bob, but I would also had Three Friars. I consider it Old Joe Krantz's younger lighter brother. I do prefer OJK and Riverboat Gambler but when I want something lighter I would grab Haunted Bookshop. When something spicier is needed I'd grab Three Friars. I Think everyone should at least try it at least once.

I have about 30g of HB to trade if someone wants to try the TOTM. The Burley used in HB and OJK just does not suit me.
