Pegasus is Robert Runowski's version of the old Bond Street tobacco that many pipe smokers enjoyed, It has three burleys, two VAs, and a touch of unsweetened Black Cavendish that make up the blend. In pouch or jar it is a good looking tobacco, with different colors of browns and golds, plus the black of the Cavendish. C&D describe it as a medium bodied blend. Pouch aroma is pleasant, probably due to the VAs.
Upon first lighting the blend, the impression is of a burley with a slight sweetness in the background, probably from the VAs and the Cavendish. This remains fairly consistent throughout the smoke. Lighting and burn characteristics are very good, as they usually are with C&D tobaccos. My pound had been aged for about two years.
Value is a subjective thing. C&D is up to $34.50/lb. on their non-premium blends but that is due to the times we live in. There are other deals out there. If you can handle a week's wait, Mars Cigars can send you a pound for $31.50 plus $6.95 shipping.
Overall I rate Pegasus as a fine blend and a good compliment to the others in the Runowski/Tarler stable. I'll be keeping a pound of this one in my cabinet.
That was a very insightful review. Thank you!
Great reviews. Thanks for taking the time & sharing.
Is the room note that got me into pipe smoking as my wifes Grandfather smoked that as a staple.
This post caused me to buy a tin of Pegasus. Once I applied flame, I thought the bride was going to cry. She said it reminded her of her late Grandfather.
Thanks for the review. Its a blend both the wife and I can enjoy.
Timberwolfer, that is great to hear! It truly is amazing how distinctive smells are capable of evoking such strong memories; I can only imagine how the wonderful smell of burning pipe tobacco conjures up old memories of a loved one who smoked a pipe. I hope you both get much pleasure from Pegasus!

I haven't tried the Bond Street blend that Pegasus is apparently a take on, but I did find this blend to be a pretty good smoke. I ordered Pegasus directly from C&D, along with several other buley-based blends, as I had read many good comments regarding their skillful use of quality burley leaf.
Upon opening the tin, I was greeted with a slightly sweet aroma that is just barely noticeable when smoked. The different burleys are certainly the main stars of this blend, but the virginias and cavendish compliment the burleys very well. The characteristic of this blend that stood out most to me was its earthiness. Ocasionally, when slowing exhaling just a litle bit of the smoke through my nostrils, I got a very unique hint of a musky, earthy flavor. It's hard to describe, but it was almost like the smell of fresh potting soil; at least that was my experience of this subtlety.
Overall, I would rate this blend an 8 out of 10. It is a good, robust burley blend, with just the right amount of support from the cavendish and virginias. While this is not a complex blend, it is full-bodied with enough subtleties to keep it interesting. This is my second-favorite burley blend, with C&D Buley Flake #2 being my favorite.
