The sea is a bewitching mistress, beautiful but always unpredictable and apt to turn stormy at a moment's notice. Those who have experienced her tempests know what a blessing it is to drop anchor in a safe harbor after a troubled and storm filled day. We invite you to add to the enjoyment of finding a safe harbor with a bowlful of this Burley flake reminiscent of a lost American classic.
SHF is a great way to begin your transition to non-aromatics or for that change of pace for a natural tobacco taste and comfortable smoke from your favorite aromatics. SHF is "classic smooth". But, don't be fooled, this very high-quality grade Burley based blend does have a kick! It will satisfy that urge for less aromatic (flavoring) and more natural tobacco taste. Beautiful Flake Burley. An easy rub or fold didn't matter. Great smoking characteristics and natural Burley flavor that just won't quit!
This sounds interesting. I wish I would have thought of it when I placed my order the other night.
I'll have to put it on my try list. Damn that list is getting long.
I found this tobacco unpleasant all around. Sure, I am not an everyday burley smoker, but I do have a few in my rotation and this one will never enter it. I did not not even save it to pass it on. A complete dumper.
If I remember correctly, this was the blend that another MPC member and I joked about trying to pawn off on one another. Any blend that becomes the butt of a joke (e.g., Mixture 79) cannot be a good thing.
In my opinion, smoke at your own risk.
Not for me .. Quaffer we seem to share the same tastes .. and distastes.
I handed it to a friend of mine and he'll smoke anything .. he didn't like it either. I was amazed.
I'm still fairly new to burleys and after reading descriptions of this tobacco I thought I'd like it. I get more taste out of my drugstore burleys.
... on the tobacco review website.
I already ordered my tin, it should arrive in a few days, but after reading the reviews I think I will not open it, at least for a few years.

I guess I will pass on buying this. If it becomes available by luck I will give it a go, but I certainly will not waste my hard earned dollars on it. Thanks guys.
Perhaps a contrary view but I don't find this a bad tobacco. But I won't be buying more. I enjoy the first half of the bowl - it is a classic burley flake - but the nicotine level is way over the top for me. I simply cannot smoke a whole bowl. In any event, it starts to lose flavour about half way down the bowl. I understand that C&D have a new burley flake in the wings - I look forward to that. I need a good burley flake in my smoking career. SHF is not it - not for me anyway.
Hello all!
I'm new here, this is my first post. I'm a 27-year-old student from Germany. So please excuse occasional problems with the language. :-)
I'm smoking pipes for a year now and I bought a tin of SHF as well. I made a similar experience: I found it to be very harsh and bitter. But I wasn't used to strong tobaccos yet at that time, which has changed now. Besides, the tobacco was pretty moist and I didn't really let it dry out. I think I was yet too unexperienced in pipe smoking in general for this baccy. So this might not be a beginners blend..
I would love to give this blend another shot, let's see if I will get the opportunity soon.
This looks like a very interesting platform, I love the focus on the C&D and GLP blends! I'm looking forward to a nice exchange here!
All the best from Germany, Eddy :-)
... I look forward to reading more of our posts!
Welcome Eddy.
I don't like to write bad reviews, suffice to say that the best thing about this blend is the artwork. Buy at own risk. Of the four C&D blends that I tried in TOMT the one I liked the most was Riverboat Gambler, then Exhausted Rooster. I will buy those two blends again.

First, my tin has a different description. Tinned 040207, description reads
"For centuries sailors have known that few things calm rough waters like a pipe. This classic Burley-based flake will soothe many a mind and spirit."
Second, I really enjoy this blend, it is full of all the burley goodness you could ever hope and dream of. The flakes easily rub out to make nice ribbons to burn to clean white ash in you pipe.
Though my palate is not as extensive as others, and I often don't find the subtle complexity in somethings, I love the nutty taste this burley offers. I find it to be smooth and sweet (sweet for a burley) and equate the taste of the smoke to that of a buttered carmel. Not anywhere near as sweet as carmel, but the rich taste and lingering finish.
I also feel this blend has similar characteristics to other codger burleys. If I close my eyes just right, this blend reminds me of the good prince or carter hall. If you were to make an analogy of the blends, PA or Carter hall would be like Flogers coffee, (strong, good taste, easy to find), but Safe Harbor Flake is more akin to a small private coffee roaster, whos bean were just cooked that morning (rich and smooth taste, no lingering after taste, just perfect).
I highly suggest this blend, if it were not for the price, I could see this being an all day everyday smoke. If you have enjoyed codger burleys in the past, this one is worth trying.
Happy Smoking
